and down came the animals. First two scrawny coyotes in front of my gate to Craycroft, then a proud roadrunner who didnt run but rather posed on the top of my chaise lounge, then a small gaggle of havalinas (they had been roasted by the evil HOA but two years later were back coming single file down a wash in back of my house. Then last night a fat gila monster who was gone by the time I turned my car around. Love them animals.

I feel fine. People keep saying on the phone that after my (August 18th) surgery I'll feel much better EXCEPT for the fact I FEEL FINE. C'est la vie. I leave everything to my two daughter , Leah and Willa, though both have made it clear they dont want my important collection of smut. When I was circa a elevenb years old my father, Boris, at the formal dining room table, asked us three kids who will come into his (textile) business he had made from scratch into millions and a fine reputation for elegance and mid century style. I said I wanted to go off on my own in some other field. He was furious and vindictive. So much for hiding behind youth.

Tomorrow at 4 am I get woke and go across the way to the Mayo clinic for my percultaneous nephrolithotomy/nephroltihotripsy (PCNL). whoopee! This time I'm going to have the IV in my left arm. Gail's bored with this, my friends are bored, my kids I know are bored and I'm bored and anxious to `just do it'.

In the meantime, my old publisher (leonard Abrahms) from the East Village Eye
alerted me to the Glenn Horowitz Bookseller in NYC  doing a show called The Downtown Decade (1975-1985) and though its to begin in a week I worked with Lauren, the director, and thirty some images were chosen.
What follows is a small per centage of what I shot in those years. Naturally I kept everything including all the art opening announcements. Lauren hopes to show some of those also.

The Bookseller didnt choose this of Richard Hambleton talking with Rick Prol but they did choose

I like `picking' up in Globe, Az and the MOtel 6 I stay in employs Apache Indians. I asked Sonya behind the desk if anything was happening in San Carlos. She told me about the Sunrise ceremonies that happen this time of year. Gail and I followed the directions of Mike from Quikstop and got lost.
I found a policeman and he had us follow him to Peridot, Az and at dawn we found the ceremony. In front of the two young dancing Apache girls was a line of containers filled with candy. Next to the girls were two elderly women also dancing. The Medicine man (Leonard Kentor)

was drumming and singing. The police officer introduced us to Mario DeClay,

the Apache god father of the girl. He was very kind and invited us to join others for breakfast in the wichi up (part of which the young girl built herself). I was told no photography and left my camera in my motel room. It wasnt till we had met the principles were we told that we could take some photos that night but no flash.
I was respectful when I returned on Sunday morning and didnt shoot the crown dancers while they had
corn pollen smeared over there black face masks.

The ceremony was totally without Christianity (unlike the Yaqui Easter ceremonies). It was entirely devoid of gringos except for me and Gail. It was rhythmic, beautiful and simple without greed or purpose beyond celebrating this young woman's right of passage.

below are some of the shots. I'll write more later.

Felice has fourth stage melanoma cancer and is doing fine but needs new ways to fight it and wishes to get another approach from the doctors at M.D. Anderson Cancer hospital in Houston, Texas. She has very little money, very little and her good friend Karen Kirn has started a gofundme for her to get to the Anderson.

Those that know me know Felice.
She was my partner for most my years in San Francisco. She was there when my kids grew up. Intuitive, insightful I hope she lives a long long time. please help.

Felice allowed me to realize my imagination year after year. Here she figured out her make-up to match the famous Man Ray shot. This we did one night in Tucson before I moved there permanently.

Janis and Dylan but not in that order

My Bard college friend Bob Richardson remembers it so it must be real. He remembers me walking up to Bob Dylan's table in a cafe in Woodstock in circa 1965 and sitting down. I can picture the cafe and walking in. I remember Mr. Dylan and I talking about the pursuit of nirvana. He said ti was easy. I said it was hard. I pasted Nirvana today but it was closed.

Last night I went to see Janis at the Loft. I did hear her at the Family Dog in Denver. I had a blind date with her in circa 1970 at a retreat outside Taos, N.M. but she never got there. One night around the same time I was having a drink at a bar I never drank at (in Taos) and the emcee saidthat a young singer would like to sing a song he had written. It was Kris Kristofferson and he sang "Me and Bobby McGee".

I added a bird to my life...a sand crane.

Craigslist. Ending 2015 with a bang

"fat girl with hairy pussy seeks hook-up"

above is a friend's recent listing (without photo) on craigslist. It had a happy ending.
Years ago I knew a woman that got fired from Starbucks and until she got rehired, she'd sell her worn panties through craigslist. I would act as the `protection' and sit anonymously at a nearby table while she made the exchange. I made sure the buyer didn't try to follow her home from the cafe she used to make the sale.
When I was a teenager growing up in Westchester  my parents switched me from public to a small private school that's no longer there. Being a transfer underclassman I had no status with the upper class but somehow, one nite, I hocked up with the quaterback's girlfriend, Bonnie. I remember playing with her on the apartment building lawn with the Tappan Zee bridge lights in the background. Afterwards Bonnie asked if I would be willing to do the same with her girlfriends. Yes I said. For the rest of Bonnie's senior year, I would be told which car to go to and there would be an older girl. And that all happened without craigslist. But that was then...
Happy New Year!

In 1971, I went looking for my first living/work space in New York City. I answered a sublet ad and it turned out to be Gary Winogrand's westside spacious apartment. Leaning against the wall in his dining room were enormous 1950's b&w photos he had done of Richard Nixon standing up in the back of a convertible making peace signs with both hands as it cruised down the crowded city street. Nixon was smiling the Richard Nixon smile.
The photos by Winogrand of Nixon were extra ordinary. So was Winogrand's bitterness. Or was it NYC depression? A lifetime later I still dont know why he was the way he was but I've gotten hints through the years.
Particularly since moving to Tucson. Conservative! Kicked out (permanently) of Whole Foods at River and Craycroft for a complaint that I was viewing pornography. so much for making my erotica away from snooping minds. (I choose not to have internet at home and have to go out to get it). Apprehended by Federal Park rangers for "being off the path" on the Broadway border of East Sahuaro National Park. Was it the 25 vintage Barbie dolls I hung by their hair from an old sahuaro "off the (invisible) path".
Recently I quit the anti depression drug I was on since a particular woman walked out of my life. Since stopping the medicine I am less lethargic and quick to be pissed. I think that's an improvement over being a passive vegetable.
I read where the editor of Tucson Weekly said America used to be founded on `hope' but now its motivated by fear.
Yeah.
Because people are SO paranoid I started a new photo essay of people with colored hair FROM THE BACK. I couldn't do the essay from the front. Not in this town...this state...this country unless I had ALL FUCKING day to explain my purpose and make stupid promises I cant possibly keep.

I keep thinking I can do an organized, intelligent blog entry but I can't. I quit my anti depressants cold turkey and basically that's what I have become. angry but alive. I was tired of being melba toast without a hard-0n. SO
I stay out behind Durmel's house in Mt. Washington. I came to LA 2 work on creating a pop-up gallery of vintage porn and contemporary erotica. I need to find more collectors of the million cool items I own. So it would include the work of contemporary artists I am friends with. I did the same thing to produce the Warhol show at the Eric Firestone gallery in Tucson years ago. Except he made the money and I didn't. This time I want to use the 40 years of collecting and befriending to pull together the most exciting exhibition and sale of edge erotic art.
Marcel Duchamp said "all great art stems from LUST".

feast or famine. I havent shot with an interesting model in months and then through Kayla I shoot two.

She and I are back being friends again and I like it.

She knew Luka who knew Cameron. And he knew Suzy. I had bought a transparent rubber suit from Syren, Stockroom's rubber division. I had brought the air plants for her arm pits and pubes.

Before I left Tucson  I got to hang with the help of Jorge my "Sissy" watercolor. It has become the centerpiece of my art collection. Here is a shot of Yessica mimicking the sissy watercolor by Aldo.

"from Billy (Bill Ward) to Bettie (Peter Basch) in my humble living room"

I got to see and visit with Jeremy Thompson, a close friend from San Francisco. He looked like Lenin but smiled like Satan (both good things). We met at Matt Gleason's gallery and got hugs from Lisa Derrick and a selfie

then went looking for a restaurant- he on his motorcycle and me in my Echo. After following him through every LA neighborhood I made the right turn I thought he made and realized he hadn't made any right and knew he wouldnt answer his phone while driving his bike so I kept driving until I ended up in Alhambra, the home of a thug in the novel by Denis Johnson called "Nobody Move". So I didn't  (move)
from 4:30 pm till now (2:25 am).  I ate a dinner then went to my car and slept 7 hours then am back in for breakfast and internet. My goal is to reach Tucson, Az

in the next few days

Jorge and Amanda and the Ventana Canyon golfers in my backyard

The Kasbah is gone that once was on the corner in Sunset Junction. Success destroyed Jumbo's Clown room. There are now young couple behind the velvet rope to get in! Now how is one supposed to make tips when his girlfriend is eyeing the local talent!

The cheap but good chinese restaurant next to Gelson's on Hyperion is gone. And I couldnt shoot at Dave's because the mold removing guy didnt come when he said he would and Dave was concerned the naked models I wanted to bring over would track the mole around.
And Durmel is a God send. Then comes Luka Orbison aka Luka Brown genius personality, painter, and procurer of models 4 me.

He also documents me working, like Durmel does.

My new friend, John, took me to dinner at Barrachoa in Atwater and Durmel deLeon and Molly D'Amour came along. John's obsessive but in a good way because he smiles while obsessing which, I think, means he realizes how over the top he is. Within 10 hours he send me an email asking if Durmel is "Satyr" and sends me a bare chested shlt of Durmel with horns. John is a moving breathing face recognition machine.

Somewhere in there she danced for Lady Gaga on tour. There's more but D'amour is enough.

a shot of Serge I took and got busted for in East Saguaro National Park. that's Robert Villa on violin.

I had to go to court over this shot done several years ago. They clainmed it was a commercial shot and I had no permit. I have made nor intended to make money on this photo as can be attested to by Jim Nitzel from the Tucson Weekly. They made me pay $350 which I did NOT have.
This morning Tucson water turned off my water. Thank goodness there is the community pool with shower across the street from my house. Tomorrow T-mobile will shut down my phone.

My friend from years together in San Francisco came to help me find my David Bowir negatives, my Warhol negs, my Yoko Ono negs and more. It was productive and we found the material. Early this morning she flew back to Santa Rosa and after dropping her off at the Tucson airport I slept in my car for two hours in the cell phone waiting area.
Since it was only 7 am by the time I woke I went over to the Mission and half attended mass and bought some native cracker spread. Then over to Tonhul Chul swap meet nearby for El Salvador breakfast of beans, fried bananas, some tasty cut up greens and two tortias. As I was leaving I noticed one of the four giant saquaros in front of the santuary church across from the parking lot for the swap meet had fallen over and lay there like a broken giant. I left with a piece of the giant saguaro that reminds me of Samson's head and I intend to put it on a platter and see how it looks.

Still b4 noon I went to see evidence of the Yaqui Indian easter ceremony and hit three villages. There had been some all- niters at the village off Grant and the village off 10 th avenue but all was quiet Sunday day. I was exhausted and slept for two hours in Himmel Park on my quilt I keep in my trunk. Lovely even with the Jules Feifer like cartoon characters beating their drums and dancing their interpretation of Spring.
I went to deliver a photo of my friend B to Bob who is going through a stability crisis. I found his door unlocked and went in to see if all was ok. His place was a mess (not like mine) and there were pills and cigarettes (I didnt think he smoked). He came in with some soft drinks and stuffed them unsuccessfully in a small refrigerator. He asked me not to tell anyone the state of his apartment. I asked him about the three pills I found on his desk and he said they were  mild speed and then the pills miraculously disappeared from his desk. He said he had been sleeping all week. I told him he had to get off drugs and he said he wasnt on drugs and pointed to the three or more red and white Walgreen prescription bags unopened on his turbulent livingroom table. I immediately called T and T said he had come that morning from a very good breakfast with B and he thought B's condition was improving. I told him he was full of shit. I feel/felt B's adjustment problem needed radical intervention. I felt that things were not going to get better gradually. ( My daughter Leah had a crystal meth problem that took many years to do away with). B not being younger than 18, had to check himself into an institution that included daily therapy I felt. He needed to be in a drug free safe environment to get centered. To get back his coping skills. I asked T to come over. T came over angry at me. I wanted him to see the condition of B's apartment. Two days earlier B had txted me asking me to help him make sense out of the world. "I don't understand anything going on here...I just don't get my life here or not going or on,...how can I be so far out of everything that I cant even understand discussions about myself..."
To me it was a plea to help him find sanity and calm.  But I dont live with him. No one does and I dont think he can do it alone. Then G returned my call for help with B and, in the excitement, spoke to T and I could hear her say "get him out of there!"
So I left.

Driving up Craycroft at Ft. Lowell park I noticed, off to my left, a sign about a swap meet. I wanted to read the sign so went a little ways north to turn around in the St. Gregory parking lot. I made an immediate left to exit the school entrance and in the parking lot I had to traverse, there was one car and one woman drinking standing near her car with a large coke or I dont know what, which she proceeded to throw hard against my car making coke splatter all over the inside of my car and screamed at me. Pissed. Very pissed, I stopped. She seemed drunk. "What? I asked. What are you screaming".
"Get away from the kids you pervert!" she screamed.
I know you're here to watch the kids!" (The activity on this Subnday was two football fields distance away ...nowhere near where I was turning around in my car! I took her photo as she ran around to the back of my car to memorize my license plate number in her drunken state. There was a guy at the wheel of their SUV but he did nothing. I backed up and shot a photo of his Arizona license plate number: BNE 3012 and left

To top off this angry turbulent day, my vintage photos I had put up on ebay at a fraction of what i had tried to sell them at b4 did not sell.
